Path of Exile 2 version 0.5 gives the cosmetic wardrobe a proper shake-up, and you notice it the moment you start browsing. This isn't just a few extra skins tucked into a menu. It's a broad refresh with more than eighty new microtransactions, covering full armour sets, wings, cloaks, helmets, effects, and a few stranger bits that'll make people stop in town and inspect your character. For players who already care about trading, builds, and PoE 2 Currency, the update adds another layer to the game's usual chase: looking exactly how you want while you do it.

Armour sets take the spotlight

The biggest chunk of the update sits in the armour section. There's a good spread here, not one theme repeated with different colours. Atlantis leans into that deep-sea, ancient-ruin look. Arctic Crystal is sharper and colder, built around bright icy plates. Imperial Eagle feels much heavier, the sort of set that suits a character who's meant to look like they own the battlefield. Wild goes the other way, giving off a rougher, more natural mood. Then there are the supporter pack sets, which are clearly meant to feel a bit more personal. Assassin, Chimera, Cursed, Doomguard, Eclipse, Eyrie, and Seeker all have their own visual hook. Sunprism pushes into a more radiant, almost cosmic look. Sin Cloak and Wings, unsurprisingly, is darker and more dramatic. If wings aren't your thing, there's still plenty to work with. Corsair, Midnight Pact, and Verdant all give different flavours without making the character look too overbuilt. The source of each piece matters too. Azurite comes through challenges, Spider is tied to Halloween, while Empyrean and Pitfighter sit with supporter packs.

Small pieces still matter

The helmet and attachment additions are easy to overlook, but they're exactly the sort of cosmetics players use to make an outfit feel theirs. A full set can look great, sure, but swapping in a Black and White Hood or Scavenger Hood can change the tone immediately. Wild Cougar Helmet is more aggressive, and it'll probably find a home on builds that already lean into claws, beasts, or fast melee. Crest attachments are a neat touch as well. Swan Crest and Aquila Crest don't replace the whole head slot; they refine it. That's useful when you like most of a set but want the profile to feel less standard.

Effects add personality in motion

The update also pays attention to the bits you see while playing, not just while standing still. Character effects like Originator's and Awakener's give your exile a constant presence, which works well if you want a build to feel powerful before the first skill even fires. Chest effects are stranger, and honestly, that's part of the fun. Something Fishy, Trapped Wasp, and Not the Bees! have a playful edge that breaks up all the grim armour and glowing blades. There are finishers too, including Anchor Drop, plus weapon cosmetics like Torture Mace. Mirage Gauntlet being tied to the Zizaran Mirage Event also gives event players something visible to show for showing up.

Cleaner systems behind the style

What makes this patch feel better than a simple shop dump is the extra cleanup around how cosmetics behave. Bronze and Silver Marionette skins now hide base armour, which sounds small until you've seen a good skin ruined by clashing gear underneath. Tracking items also get attention, with Pilfering Ring and Tracking Scroll of Crafting updated, and Tracking Scroll of Headhunting now covering more bosses. Players who spend time tuning their look, sorting stash tabs, or buy cheap PoE 2 Currency will likely appreciate that the cosmetic side is being treated as part of the wider game, not just a separate dressing room.
